It's been a long haul.

You have put in a lot of work.

And the people who have supported you have also made some concessions in their lives too, to help you.

Celebrate! Revel in your accomplishment.
It is well-deserved.

You are a PMP immediately after you pass the exam. There is no waiting period.

Go ahead and send an email to all your friends and add “PMP” behind your name!

Note: You do not have to use a registered mark ®  when adding PMP behind your name.

Keeping Your PMP

Three years may seem a long time...

But with all your new responsibilities (we hope), you can easily find that...

Whoosh!

Three years have gone by.

But PMP is a Professional Certification

That means you need to maintain your PMP qualification actively, with continuing professional development to earn the so-called "Professional Development Units (PDUs).

And, as always, your first call is to your now well-thumbed copy of the PMP Handbook.

Look for the short section on the PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Program. It's towards the end.

  1. Everyone's PMP must actively maintain their certification through the CCR Program.
  2. You must renew your certification every 3 years.
  3. Do this through professional development and learning activities that will let you earn Professional Development Units (PDUs), to fulfill PMI's continuing certification requirements and develop you as a Project Management practitioner.

Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Handbook

For full details, you now need to download PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Handbook.

This contains information on the CCR for all of PMI's certificate programs. It covers:

  • The PDUs you need to earn
  • What PDUs are and how to earn them
  • The CCR Process
  • PMI's policies and fees for renewing your certification
  • What to do if you hold multiple PMI certifications
  • The Certification statuses: active, suspended, expired, and retired

We will soon add a Lesson or maybe even a chapter about how to earn PDUs most efficiently and cost-effectively...stay tuned ...
