Thoroughly Prepare for the PMP Exam
As mentioned before, the PMP Exam is based on the PMP Exam Content Outline (not on the PMBoK Guide!). So, to know WHAT to learn, please make yourself familiar with the PMPECO. And to learn about those takes mentioned in the PMPECO it is still best and mandatory to refer to the thePMBoK Guide(s):
Make sure that you are studying the most recent version of the PMBOK® Guide. There are major differences between versions.
The best way to prepare for the PMP exam is to start by completely studying and carefully considering the entire PMBOK® Guide(s).
This cannot be reiterated enough – the PMBOK® Guide is still the major source and reference for your study.
Especially if you have many years of experience in project management, completely read the guide. One of the main reasons unsuccessful candidates have cited for not passing the exam on their first attempt is because they assumed their years of project management experience were all that was needed to pass the exam.
The PMBOK® Guide does an excellent job of identifying fundamental aspects of project management; specifically, the Inputs, Tools, Techniques, and Outputs (ITTO) associated with the Project Management Process Groups and Knowledge Areas. ( => PMBoK Guide 6th Edition)
It is more important to understand the how's, why's, and relationships between ITTOs than it is to attempt to memorize them. Passing your PMP certification exam is all about understanding, not memorizing facts.
To cover the complete project management landscape it is now (since the beginning of 2022) also mandatory to study the principle-based 7th Edition of the PMBoK Guide! (yes, in parallel to the 6th Edition, since the Content of this one is still relevant while transferred to the new "Digital+" platform by PMI).
So, we told you, it is a lot, right? And this is still not all. In addition, the "Agile Practice Guide" is also considered as being mandatory for your preparations.
Essential is - regardless of which resources you might use - to cover all the content of the PMPECO!
