Mastering the Exam Questions – Part II

Here are some practice tasks to build your knowledge and use the Simulator efficiently:

  1.  Start with taking short random quizzes. Take 3-4 quizzes with breaks between them. After completing the quizzes, review the reports to identify your gaps.
  2.  Go over the quizzes’ reports and review every single question you answered incorrectly. Read the general explanation carefully, as well as the explanation of each one of the answer choices. Make sure you understand the reason behind a specific choice being correct or incorrect. Review the reference provided and study the entire section/chapter when applicable. Review the relevant lessons/topics from the course/your material.
  3.  Reviewing the incorrectly answered questions is only part of your post-quiz activities. If you answered the question correctly, reflect on whether you did that based on your knowledge or a guess. Additionally, go over the questions you marked while taking the quiz.
  4.  After you have completed the review and analysis of your results and spent the time to study the knowledge gaps identified above, move on to the next step, which is taking specific quizzes focused on those gaps. This step builds on the activities from the previous steps, where you took random quizzes to generate reports reflecting your knowledge. This step is dedicated to specific quizzes aimed to close some of your knowledge gaps.
  5.  After studying the material and taking quizzes with the selected criteria, your scores are supposed to improve. If you find that is not the case, repeat the previous step.

Next, review the reports of all the quizzes you have taken so far to identify the Knowledge Areas (KAs) where you scored the lowest result. Everyone possesses different experiences and knowledge, so your results will differ from anyone else’s.

Therefore, the following action steps provide general guidance on how to identify your knowledge gaps as they relate to the KAs where you scored the lowest. You do not have to take any additional quizzes. The action is solely based on reviewing the reports from the quizzes you have taken so far and identifying the Knowledge Areas where you scored the lowest result.

  •  Scroll to the bottom of the report which displays the section called RESULTS BY KNOWLEDGE AREA and review what it says. Another, more robust way to identify your KA knowledge gaps is by reviewing your statistics page. You can access the statistics page from your simulator main menu page.
  •  As with the previous gaps, the idea is to go over the quizzes’ reports and review every single question you answered incorrectly. Read the general explanation carefully, as well as the explanation of each one of the answer choices. Make sure you understand the reason behind a specific choice being correct or incorrect.

Review the reference provided and study the entire section/chapter when applicable. Review the relevant lessons/topics from the course/your material

  •  Next, take specific quizzes focused on topics related to the KAs or Domains where you scored the lowest in your practice so far.
  •  After studying the material and taking quizzes with the selected criteria, your scores should have improved. If not, repeat the previous step.
  •  You may need to repeat the steps described above as needed. For example, if you have identified the People domain as your weakest, take quizzes with the People domain selected in the Criteria filter. If Quality Management is your weakest Knowledge area, take quizzes with Quality Management selected in the Criteria filter.
  •  Repeat the above steps as many times as needed until you get results that you are happy with. Based on feedback from those who used our simulator and passed their exam, scoring 75% and above in the simulator indicates a sufficient level of readiness for your exam.
  •  Next, your goal is to “exhaust” the quiz pool to ensure you answer all available questions so that no more unanswered questions are left. Take random quizzes. Make sure you select “Include only unanswered questions” in the Include questions filter. Set the filter to select the maximum number of questions. Typically, 100 is the maximum value.

Repeat the last step until no more incorrectly answered questions are left.

This step is a bit tricky because you will see the same questions you saw in some of your previous quizzes (although last time you saw them, you got them wrong).

You might be tempted to answer the question from memory rather than your knowledge, and you may still answer some of them incorrectly. Gradually, as you repeat this step, the number of incorrectly answered questions will go down until no more questions are left because you have answered all of them correctly.

Now that you have taken all the questions in the quiz pool, you are ready to take your first 180-question full-length PMP exam. Proceed to the next Lesson ...
