Here are a few tips, if you have opted to take your exam at an exam center

  1. Be sure you know where the center is and how to get there. Research (or better still, practice) the journey at the time of day you will be traveling.
  2. You're a Project Manager - allow plenty of contingency time for your journey!
  3. Getting there early will give you plenty of time to use the bathrooms and find the exam room without feeling rushed. Aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time.
  4. Wear comfortable, appropriate clothing

Finally some general Tips for Taking Your Exam

One Question at a Time

Move quickly and steadily through the questions – but do not rush.

Take one question at a time.

Read each question carefully.

  • Read what they say, not what you expect them to say. The same for the answer options.
  • Identify and Answer the question PMI asks - not the one you expected them to ask.
  • One word can change the meaning and if you miss it, you’ll get the wrong answer.

If you get stuck...  Don’t panic.

If necessary, make a guess ... choose the best response, mark that question and move on. Never leave a single question unanswered! You can always go back to it if you have time and other questions may remind you of something important that will help you with it.

Remember, PMI is not trying to confuse you with its questions. It is trying to test whether you understand the material; not just that you have rote learned it.

If you are not sure which answer to choose because of what you do at work and what the PMBOK Guide says conflict – always answer according to PMBOK. This is PMI’s exam, and the PMBoK Guide is ALWAYS right!.  ... yes, always.

At the end of the exam...

Ok, great. So you've worked through all 180 questions and answered every single one too!

Maybe you had to guess some questions and you were a little unsure of others. You marked those questions.
If you have some time left, you can go back to those marked questions and go through them again. You may want to adjust one or the other answer again; maybe because later on in the exam, you got new impulses from other questions that made you rethink your previous solutions?!

Great!  ... But be careful!

Only make changes if you are sure in the meantime!
Mostly the first gut feeling is the right one ...

If you are finished with the questions, take a deep breath and press the Submit button!

Now there is no turning back!

The computer will analyze your answers and determine the result. This may take some time.
As soon as the computer is done, a final message will appear on the monitor showing you your result.
I am sure you will be able to read there:

"Congratulations! ..."

well, the rest is not so important at this moment ... 😉
